This is unreal.
This has never happened at PITV before!
What is that gorgeous red bloom in the shade garden...today...here in the last part of June???
Lordy be, it's a camellia!!!!
What? Huh? Am I seeing things? This is June, right?
You ask why is this crazy? Well, I've had this Camellia japonica for five years, and it has never, ever bloomed past mid-March. Camellia japonica blooms from December to March in my garden, and I have truly never seen a summer bloom. And ya know what? There are several more buds on the tip of this branch. Pretty cool, huh?
What an awesome summer surprise!
Another happy surprise I just found was my old Clivia bursting into a second bloom flush! Woohoo! I thought they were done for the year.
Don't know how unusual it is for Clivia to bloom in summer...perhaps its normal...still exciting for me, though, because it was a surprise! I planted my first Clivia two and a half years ago, and it just bloomed for the first time this spring. So happy I'm gonna have more fun enjoying it this year! : )
Oh, here's a summer surprise of another sort! I walked into a ginormous spider web this morning! This is the little lady I found in the middle of it...an Arrowhead spider. Isn't she a beaut?!! Well, she is an amazing creature, but I still don't like walking into those giant webs. Ugh.

May your summer garden bring you all sorts of surprises!

What brilliant surprises! The Camellia is lovely and how wonderful to see your Clivia blooming again. That's a plant I've long wanted, but still haven't got. It looks like you've had a bit of rain as well. Great rain splashed shots today. What a shame you ruined the spiderweb creation by walking into it, lol!
ReplyDeleteYou definitely need a Clivia! I've fallen in love with them, and husband has become obsessed, ordering varieties from all over the world. : )
DeleteYes, we are getting a great rain...tropical system out in the Gulf. We will be measuring in the inches when it's all said and done. : )
Yes, I did mess up her web. But she was busy rebuilding the damaged side by the time I got back out there with my camera. I didn't have the heart to knock the whole thing down, even though it spanned one of my paths.
I've never heard of a camellia blooming in June. What's your secret? Hope you're getting lots of this wonderful rain down your way.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can guess is that I put camellia fertilizer on all my camellias in early June. I really never fertilize ever, but the leaves had been turning spotty yellow for the past couple of years. I feared it could be a virus, but this year, I finally decided to try fertilizer and see if it made a difference. Who knew I'd be rewarded with summer flowers?!! I must say, though, that I have nine bushes, and there is only one branch on one bush that is blooming. So I'm sure it really is a fluke. That is 'Kramer's Supreme,' by the way.
DeleteIt looks like surprises of that sort happens around the world. We here in the hot tropics are surprised too of the changes! But your photos with lots of drops are so lovely, and that spider i haven't seen here yet, though we might have it too!
ReplyDeleteThat is one gorgeous camellia! I'm going to get some fertilizer for mine :)
